The days of yay and Nay-(the yays have it!) in the senate may be over as the red chamber used the electronic voting system for the first time (of course, we know their attitude towards electronic voting). Interestingly, they followed this up by streaming their plenary live on Facebook? even though it was a test run.
The streamed video showed part of the Senate’s debate on the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) between 2017 and 2019 and it ran for about 12 minutes.
Remarkably, before this live streaming idea, the senate has been uploading their plenaries on their official YouTube channel.
Thanks to the Senate for live streaming their plenary but the question here is why was the plenary streamed on the Senate President’s Facebook account instead of the official Facebook account of the Senate?
All said and done it’s a good idea to give Nigerians the opportunity to watch their plenary live. We hope that the green chamber that is the House of Assembly will follow suit.
With regards to the electronic voting, we also hope they will fully adopt it and stop their yay and nay voting system!
