Zimbabwe’s high court has lifted the Reserve bank’s ban on cryptocurrencies. The Reserve bank had earlier in the month issued a directive to financial institutions prohibiting them from working with Cryptocurrency exchanges or holding any accounts of people trading in cryptos.
The bank had also directed Golix, Zimbabwe’s first and biggest cryptocurrency exchange to wind up operations. Golix even had some of its accounts frozen.
Golix challenged this directive by going to the High Court to file an urgent chamber application for the RBZ ban to be lifted.
The hearing came up today and the apex bank was not represented. The High Court judge Justice Alphas Chitakunye gave a default judgement lifting the ban.
