Last month, the Head of Kwesé Zimbabwe, Dorothy Zimuto adviced that ZBC-ZTV1 was going to be available on Kwesé TV. And indeed, ZBC-TV has now finally come on board on Kwesé TV as it is a requirement of Zimbabwean law that every licensed service carries the national broadcaster.
ZBC-ZTV1 is now available on Kwesé TV Channel 230. And on Kwesé TV App? Not yet, though you will soon also be able to watch this channel on the Kwesé TV App.
It’s just being a few last days that ZBC-TV has actually gotten the attention of many Zimbabweans and foreigners across the globe due to the prevailing political situation. Otherwise, ZBC had became a sad reality of broadcasting in the world where everything is done in a poor fashion, with only Zanu PF as the major stakeholder. If the ruling party is not involved, then apparently it’s not news.
Furthermore, it’s no secret to any ordinary Zimbabwean that the government-owned television station, ZBC TV really needs a total make over, but what was rather surprising was when a [former] government minister, and one that has been in charge of ZBC itself twice admitting to that notion.
Jonathan Moyo was Minister of Information and Publicity from 2000 to 2005. During that time he was known for effecting some radical modifications at ZBC. He led the same ministry again from 2013 to 2015. Whatever things he did, or did not do, contributed to the state that ZBC-TV is in today and should take responsibility.
ZBC should take a leaf from other state broadcasters like the SABC, CCTV and the BBC. It should air high quality and useful information in an impartial way without resorting to partisan rhetoric probably that way it will gain
