Prior to Kwese TV being launched in Zimbabwe, we initially had 2 choices only one really bad TV that literally sucks the life out of you (ZBC-TV), and on the other hand, an expensive option (DStv) that had monopoly. Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation now wittingly and popularly known as ‘Dead Broadcasting Corporation’, well, doesn’t seem like it want to stay dead, at all! Instead it seems to find pleasure in taunting people like some kind of ghost, also protected by the Zimbabwean law that every licensed service carries the national broadcaster. Therefore, it won’t be going anyway soon, but as a matter of fact, ZBC-TV will be going on board on Kwesé . Imagine! When you finally thought you had moved on.

It’s no secret to any ordinary Zimbabwean that the government-owned television station, ZBC TV really needs a total make over, but what was rather surprising was when a government minister, and one that has been in charge of ZBC itself twice admitting to that notion. Jonathan Moyo was Minister of Information and Publicity from 2000 to 2005. During that time he was known for effecting some radical modifications at ZBC. He led the same ministry again from 2013 to 2015. Whatever things he did, or did not do, contributed to the state that ZBC-TV is in today.
In a statement, Kwesé TV General Manager Mrs Dorothy Zimuto said ZTV1 will be available as required by the laws of the land.
It is a requirement of Zimbabwean law that every licensed service carries the national broadcaster. Kwesé will also carry ZTV1 and any other free channels.”
Mrs Zimuto said following a two-week cut off of the service they decided to offer customers who requested for refunds to reconnect.
This offer also includes customers who requested for refunds during the disruption period, provided they come forward for reconnection of Kwesé TV service before 15th of October 2017.”
Currently, all new Kwesé TV customers in Zimbabwe enjoy FREE subscriptions for the first month in addition to free installation.
Meanwhile, in what will clearly be a game changer in the industry, Kwesé TV has also announced that it will soon introduce a high quality General Entertainment service which will be known as Kwesé Free Entertainment, (KFE).
This service will give all Kwesé TV customers 5 free channels to enjoy, even when their subscription has lapsed.
If we sell you a decoder, it is your investment and we believe there is value attached to your decoder which you must enjoy. On our part as Kwese, we attach value to every customer who connect with us, and also recognise that there is value to your decoder.
For that reason we cannot suspend all services because you have failed or delayed to pay. We give value for the decoder itself, and say thank you for being part of the Kwesé family through Kwesé Free TV, which is the five permanently free channels.
Mr Masiyiwa also recently announced on Facebook that Kwesé TV will offer 5 free channels. The five free channels include Kwese Free Sport which also has top sports like English Premier League, NBA basketball and will be the home of the next FIFA World Cup.
The Kwesé Free Entertainment (KFE) platform will also feature a faith channel known as Flow TV, and a news Channel known as Africa News.
Offering free channels is a good move for Kwesé TV as their direct competitor in Zimbabwe, DStv, only offers two free channel: channel 100 which only shows promotional content and you wouldnt watch it unless if you were totally bored. The other channel they offer for free is the local national broadcaster channel ZBC.
