Xiaomi has introduces another low-cost virtual reality headset – the Mi VR. This is a huge step up from the first offering – the Mi VR Play introduced in August this year for $7.
The Mi VR has a hardware-level motion sensor that is 16x more sensitive, and when coupled with system level optimizations and a high-performance phone, results in a 16ms ultra-low latency.
The Mi VR headset is priced at RMB199 ($29). This is very cheap compared to the likes of Google’s Daydream View at $65, the Samsung Gear VR at $59 or even the Oculus Rift at $599
The company also launched the MIUI VR store to ensure users have enough content to engage themselves with the VR system. It offers over 500 panoramic videos and more than 30 VR apps
The headset will work with recently launched, high-end Xiaomi smartphones — the Mi Note 2, Mi 5s, Mi 5s Plus, and the Mi 5. It wasn’t mentioned if the Xiaomi Mi VR will work with other smartphones.
