UBA, Africa’s Global Bank, has introduced a pioneering initiative called the UBA Braille Account Opening Form, a first-of-its-kind offering in the Nigerian and African markets. This initiative is specifically designed to meet the financial needs of visually impaired individuals who have previously faced disadvantages in accessing banking services. By launching the UBA Braille Account Opening Form, UBA demonstrates its unwavering commitment to delivering an exceptional user experience to all customers, irrespective of their abilities or disabilities.
The unveiling of the UBA Braille Account Opening Form took place at the UBA Head Office in Lagos, with key executives from the bank, notable guests, including award-winning Nigerian musician and producer Cobhams Asuquo, and representatives from organizations such as the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) and the Pacelli School of the Blind.
Cobhams Asuquo, endorsing the commendable initiative, described the Braille account as an innovative solution that showcases UBA as a bank that empathizes with the needs of the blind and disabled. He expressed his gratitude towards UBA for addressing the accessibility challenges faced by visually impaired individuals, emphasizing that the Braille account opening form empowers them to independently engage in banking activities and seize various opportunities.
Ugo Nwaghodoh, UBA’s Executive Director of Finance and Risk Management, emphasized the bank’s commitment to ensuring the comfort and inclusion of physically challenged individuals within the financial industry. The introduction of the Braille Account Opening Form is part of UBA’s broader goal to drive comprehensive financial inclusion and provide equal opportunities to all customers.
The UBA Braille Account Opening Form, developed in collaboration with the Anglo-Nigerian Welfare Association for the Blind, is a groundbreaking initiative tailored specifically to meet the needs of visually impaired individuals. This innovative solution enables blind customers to initiate and complete the account opening process independently, ensuring their seamless integration into the financial system.
The General Manager of the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA), present at the event, praised UBA for conceiving and implementing this transformative idea. He expressed his delight and highlighted the significance of this initiative being replicated across the 19 African countries where UBA operates, commending the bank for leading the way in promoting inclusivity.
