Today marks 25 years since Sir Tim Berners-Lee created the World Wide Web.
He made a proposal for an information management system in March 1989, and he implemented the first successful communication between a Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) client and server via the Internet sometime around mid November.
In the wake of the anniversary, Sir Tim Berners-Lee has called for a new set of rules to protect the rights of its users.
He says people who use the web should be able to do so without feeling that someone is monitoring their every move.
