Audu Maikori is this episode’s guest on “Talks at Google”. Audu Maikori is the Founder of Chocolate City Group and Music Week Africa. Having built one of the most respected and successful urban record labels in Africa, he’s using his passion to drive activism, youth development and enterprise.
He had helped build the careers of artists like M.I., Ice Prince, Victoria Kimani, Jesse Jagz, Nosa, making them household names in Nigeria and even globally.
A multi-award-winning entrepreneur and creative industry specialist, Maikori soon took on the role of social activism by funding and participating in a variety of youth empowerment projects. He was a key member of the Enough Is Enough rally in 2010, which was aimed at addressing poor governance
issues in Nigeria, during which he had a face-off with Nigerian military police, when he refused to back down when a rifle was pointed at him in a bid to stop him from leading the peaceful protest to the gates of the National Assembly.
Audu Maikori received a special judge’s commendation at the finale of the international young music entrepreneur of the year, where he beat nine other countries to win the global award in June 2007.
In 2011 and 2015, he was recognized by the “CityPeople Magazine” for his outstanding contribution to the Nigerian music industry.
Here is a video of the discussion he had with Juliet Ehimuan-Chiazor, Google Country Manager Nigeria on “Redefining leadership through music and entrepreneurship.”
