Snapchat is set to enhance its messaging service by introducing the capability for users to edit their messages, aligning with a feature that is common among other messaging platforms. This new functionality is anticipated to be made available to users in the near future. Initially, this feature will be exclusive to subscribers of Snapchat+, the platform’s premium service.
Once implemented, Snapchat users will be granted a five-minute period following the sending of a message during which they can make alterations. This could include rewording their initial message, correcting any spelling mistakes, or making other necessary edits. To maintain transparency, any message that has been edited will be clearly marked to indicate that the original text has been modified.
While Snapchat has not provided a specific timeline for when this editing feature will be extended to the broader user base, the company has a history of first introducing desirable new features to its premium subscription tier. Just last week, Snapchat revealed that the Snapchat+ service, which is priced at $3.99 per month, had achieved a milestone of 9 million subscribers.
In addition to the message-editing feature for its premium users, Snapchat is also rolling out a variety of new features that will be available to all users. These include an update to the emoji reactions used in chats, the integration of the My AI assistant for setting reminders, and the introduction of AI-generated clothing options for users’ Bitmoji avatars.
Furthermore, Snapchat unveiled a novel AI lens that can transform user selfies into images with a 1990s aesthetic, although some anachronisms such as modern wireless headphones may be noticeable in these retro-styled photos.
