Six Signs of a Bad Phone Battery

Phones are very useful and we can barely do without them. They perform many functions and make our lives simpler. However, these devices or gadgets can cause a lot of pain and frustration when the batteries begin to drain quicker than normal. Most batteries typically begin to lose capacity anywhere from 300-600 cycle counts. Here are some of the signs of a bad battery to watch out for, if you really want to enjoy your smartphone.

    1. Battery drains easily

Batteries perform at their best in the first 2 years. But once the first 2 years are up, they start declining in health. If your battery doesn’t seem to power your phone for long, it’s likely a sign that it is time to replace it.

    1. Phone does not charge after being plugged in

This is another common sign of a bad battery. If the phone doesn’t charge after being plugged in, there’s probably an issue with the battery. Here, the phone stays dead even after repeated attempts at charging it. Please check first that the charging cord and plug are functional. If they are good, this means it is time to change the battery.

    1. The phone doesn’t hold a charge for long

If a smartphone battery has started to deteriorate, the device won’t stay on for long. It will power up when you connect it to a power source but it won’t hold its charge. An average phone should be able to hold its charge from a 8 – 10 hours from when it is fully charged to when it is completely discharged. Though this depends on the use of the phone. So the phone does not hold its charge anymore, it’s time to replace the battery.

    1. Phone restarts on its own

This is one of the common complaints of many smartphone users. You could be performing an important task when your smartphone suddenly decides to restart. If this is happening frequently, check your battery for damage.

    1. The battery bulges

Sometimes, when a battery goes bad, the internal cells rupture and cause a bulge to appear in the battery. Batteries bulge when they undergo undesirable chemical reactions. If you do not want your battery bulging, make sure you prevent it from overheating.

    1. Overheated battery

Excess heat generation often happens when you plug in your phone for charging. The normal average temperature range for a battery is 20 – 30 degrees Centigrade (68 – 86 degrees Fahrenheit). Smartphones can generally operate above this range, however this would have a negative impact on the battery life and performance. If you feel your device is getting too hot, it may be because of your battery. So observe it.

If you observe any of the symptoms above a combination of some of the symptoms, it may be time change your battery; that is, if it is removable. However, if the battery is not removable, you might consider getting a new phone
