In the past few years, tablet sales are going down. The reason is simple; consumers are more pleased with big-screen phones, which Samsung once categorized as “phablets”. The term is a coinage between phone and tablet. So, it is surprising to see that Samsung is trying to jump-start the category with the Galaxy Tab S3. The new tablet by Samsung focuses on productivity and entertainment. The Korean company hopes that with some new and exciting features, it can make the tablet category relevant again. And more importantly, challenge the iPad Pro. So, what makes the Galaxy Tab S3 good, or even great tablet?
The biggest advantage of the Galaxy Tab S3 is the 9.7-inch Super AMOLED screen. The display comes with QHD+ resolution, and once you get your hands on it, you really appreciate the difference. There is a clear difference between pictures and images when you watch them in HDR display and non-HDR display. The HDR version provides better coloring, as you’ll notice the sunlight looks orange like it is supposed to be.The screen display has 2048 x 1536 pixels density, and even supports HDR video. The screen display has 2048 x 1536 pixels density, and even supports HDR video.
In addition to bringing you more colorful and vibrant display, Samsung made sure you watch videos in a better sound mode. All of your entertainment wishes will be granted by the Tab S3. The tablet comes with four speakers, and Samsung has tweaked the way they work. The most important aspect is that the quad speaker setup can detect whether you hold the tablet in portrait or landscape mode. And then it adjusts accordingly. To put it simply, the stereo sound is always aimed at you. The audio might not be as loud as you wish, but it will always be clear.
When you launch a tablet in a smartphone era, you must provide more than just reading and watching options. As mentioned previously, Samsung focused on productivity with the Galaxy Tab S3. The famous S Pen comes to the Tab S3. The pen for the tablet is larger and thicker than the ones we saw on previous tablets. The pen comes with 4,000 levels of pressure sensitivity and supports all important features. Some of the features include taking notes, recording GIFs from video, and capturing screen shots.
The downside is that Samsung hasn’t provided storage space for the S Pen. There is nowhere to put it. For example, on your Note phone, you can attach it to the side. But you cannot do that with the Galaxy Tab S3.
Another productivity feature is the optional keyboard case. You can attach it to the bottom by using a pogo pin. The good news is that you do not need to charge the keyboard like a Bluetooth keyboard.
When you have almost 10 inches of display, you want to enjoy games. And with the performances of the Tab S3, you can finally do that.
Thanks to the Snapdragon 820 chipset, and 4GB of RAM, the tablet is able to provide seamless and smooth gaming experience. The tablet supports Vuklan graphics API, which will provide even more frames per second. The most important aspect is the battery. The Korean company has packed 6000 mAh battery inside, but there is no official info how long it will last. But the tablet supports fast charging. In terms of storage, you get 32GB of internal memory, and an option for microSD card as well.
Samsung has not yet revealed the price of the Tab S3. But we can look back at time. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 had a starting price of $499 when it was revealed. That was a year and a half ago, and Samsung has vastly improved the tablet. So, you can expect a minimum price of $599, maybe even more. As for the release date, Samsung is still keeping that a secret. But we will definitely get it before the Galaxy S8, which is scheduled for announcement on March 29, and possible release date in April. The Galaxy Tab S3 should make its way to the stores before the S8 announcement.
