Rocket Internet is really trying out any and every business in the African market, particularly in Nigeria. It just launched its third business in Nigeria. It started out with Kasuwa and then Sabunta a couple of months ago; and then merged the two businesses into Jumia.
The third business is an online food ordering business known as hellofood. It claims it has entered into partnerships with 27 restaurants already. Currently the restaurants are in eight areas in Lagos – Ilupeju, Opebi, Ikeja GRA, Maryland, Victoria Island, Banana Island, Lekki Phase 1 and 2.
Hellofood is geared to attend to the needs of the person that wants to stay in his/her for lunch, tired of the same takeaways or wants to share a meal with the family at home.
From the homepage, it would seem that Hellofood has also launched in Morocco.
Despite its seeming trust in this business model, one wonders if this business will stand the test of time in Nigeria. Is there really a market for this kind of service?
But hey, wait a minute, it is the same business model as Foodpanda in India, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Veitnam Taiwan and Colombia. I truly salute the Samwer Brothers courage and vision. With over 50 businesses globally, maybe they are truly seeing something that is not visible to the average man.
Well I wish Rocket Internet the best in this new endeavour. So Welcome Hellofood. Hmm…interesting name.
