Notion, after acquiring the calendar startup Cron, unveiled a new calendar app called Notion Calendar on Wednesday. The app is equipped with features designed to appeal to “tens of millions” of existing Notion users thanks to its tight, platform-wide integration.
The app features an integrated scheduler and effortlessly combines content from notes, documents, and project dates in the productivity ecosystem.
Notion Calendar enables users to link notes and other Notion files to meetings, turning the calendar invitation into a comprehensive hub for participants to share and view relevant content. The app also works with other platforms like Google Calendar, Google Meet, and Zoom for seamless integration.
Raphael Schaad, founder of Cron and now the head of Notion Calendar, considers the app to be a novel approach to managing users’ precious resource – time. In a demonstration video, Schaad shows how the app can be used to stay up-to-date with a family member’s medical appointment and effectively communicate your unavailability to colleagues, ensuring no double-booking conflicts.
While co-workers are informed about your unavailability, the details of the appointment remain private.
Notion Calendar involves a one-time Google Calendar sign-in for setup. However, regarding issues with Google Auth rate limits preventing sign-ins, Raphael Schaad mentioned in a post today that this problem is expected to be resolved within a day and suggested users check later. He described it as a “good” launch day issue.
The new calendar app supports all languages available on the Notion platform and can be accessed on Windows, Mac, and iOS. Notably, Android support is currently lacking but is promised to be “coming soon”. Additionally, integrations with Office 365 and iCloud are also absent at launch but are part of the company’s future plans, according to Schaad.
