Meta has added a new “Feeds” tab to its Facebook app where users can see posts from their friends, groups, Pages and “more separately in chronological order.”
CEO Mark Zuckerberg in a post explained how the new user interface will look. According to him, “The app will still open to a personalized feed on the Home tab, where our discovery engine will recommend the content we think you’ll care most about. But the Feeds tab will give you a way to customize and control your experience further.”
The Feeds tab is appropriately named “Feed” and is located to the right of the “Watch” icon in the bottom menu. On iOS, Meta specifically said, this bar is found at the bottom of the Facebook app, while on Android, it’s found at the top.
This new tab was introduced so users can easily see the most recent posts from your friends, Pages and groups. It’s an easy way to access the content from the people and communities you’re already connected with on Facebook.
Meta says you can curate a Favorites list of the friends and Pages you care about most and filter their content in the “Feeds” tab.
The new update is similar to Instagram’s “Following and Favorites” Feed for users who want to keep a chronological view of their closest followers, and both platforms make the algorithm the default option.
This move is disguised just to model the Facebook app after Meta’s short-video rival TikTok.
The default TikTok “For You” Feed collects the most “entertaining” content from all over the app and tailors it to users’ interests, making the platform a much more engaging social network.
This is Meta’s new approach so you can see more video content in the main Facebook feed. But do Facebook users really want their Facebook content to be like TikTok?
Who knows, the new user interface might just work to bring in young audiences like TikTok.
