The Kaduna State Government has collaborated with Google and Data Science Nigeria to launch the “AI for Beginners Learning Series,” a program aimed at empowering women in the northern region through technology. This educational series demystifies artificial intelligence by presenting concepts in the Hausa language, thereby making complex tech ideas more approachable and culturally pertinent to the area.
Uba Sani, the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, expressed his commitment to digital transformation and economic growth. He emphasized the significant benefits that AI education could offer to the women in the state.
He stated, “AI is not just the future; it’s also our current reality. By equipping our population, especially our women, with AI skills, we’re paving the way for a prosperous and innovative Northern Nigeria and laying the foundation for Kaduna to emerge as a dynamic tech hub. We are dedicated to leveraging technology as a catalyst for change and are committed to providing educational resources in local languages to empower a larger audience.”
Olumide Balogun, Director of Google West Africa, remarked, “This series represents a significant step in our continuous efforts to expand AI knowledge throughout Northern Nigeria. It aims to foster a wider comprehension and utilization of AI technologies that spur innovation and generate new employment opportunities.
“The series is crafted to simplify complex digital concepts, making them more accessible and relatable through engaging animations and culturally resonant visuals, thus promoting inclusivity and engagement in the burgeoning tech industry.”
Balogun noted that the “AI for Beginners Learning Video Series” is available on YouTube, the Data Science Nigeria platform, and the National Information Technology Development Agency’s education portal.
Dr. Bayo Adekanbi, CEO and Founder of Data Science Nigeria, remarked, “Providing AI education in Hausa opens doors for innovation, entrepreneurship, and social impact. These women are the future leaders and innovators of Northern Nigeria, and artificial intelligence is the key technology that can assist them in achieving their utmost potential.”
