The iOS 12.1 update is Apple’s first milestone upgrade for its new operating system. The iOS 12.1 release date is unconfirmed, but we expect it to land in the next few weeks as Apple works to fix bugs and deliver new features.

The first iOS 12.1 beta was released a day after iOS 12.0’s arrival and it represents the first major upgrade for those that’s moved their devices off of iOS 11.
iOS 12.1 Release Date
Apple hasn’t told us when it plans to release iOS 12.1. Milestone upgrades typically stay in beta for several weeks of testing so we probably won’t see the update roll out in September.
That said, there’s a good chance iOS 12.1 rolls out in October. Apple is reportedly cooking up new iPad Pros and references to these models have been discovered in the iOS 12.1 beta. Apple’s also planning to launch the iPhone Xr in October. Pre-orders start on the 19th.
An iOS 12.1 release in October wouldn’t be much of a surprise. The company released its first iOS 11 milestone upgrade, iOS 11.1, in late October last year.
