IHS Nigeria and Airtel Nigeria have officially announced a strategic agreement, revealing that Airtel Nigeria will acquire a total of 3,950 tenancies over the next five years.

The majority of these acquisitions are projected for 2024/2025, with the existing tenancies, encompassing around 6,000 sites, extended until December 2031.

This comprehensive deal encompasses 2,500 colocations, incorporating 5G modifications and build-to-suit sites, all under the ownership and management of IHS Nigeria.

In a joint statement, IHS Nigeria, a subsidiary of IHS Holding Limited, and Airtel Nigeria, a subsidiary of Airtel Africa Plc, expressed their commitment to this partnership.

The CEO of IHS Towers highlighted the significance of the expanded collaboration, emphasizing its role in meeting the connectivity demands of Africa and facilitating mobile connectivity in Nigeria.

Notably, the agreement aligns with Airtel Africa’s sustainability strategy and IHS Towers’ Carbon Reduction Roadmap.

With both companies aiming to reduce intensity metrics by 50% by 2030, they have pledged to collaborate on environmentally friendly initiatives across their shared sites in the future.

This telecom powerhouse alliance is poised to enhance mobile connectivity not only in Nigeria but across Africa. As the largest telecoms infrastructure provider in Africa and globally, IHS Towers plays a pivotal role in advancing connectivity across the continent.

Beyond Partnership: IHS Towers and Airtel Nigeria Dynamic Telecom Partnership to Propel Africa’s Digital Evolution

As both companies join forces to address the rising demand for connectivity, the impact on the broader digital infrastructure cannot be understated.

Recent statistics indicate a substantial increase in mobile data consumption across the continent, with an annual growth rate of 25%.

This surge in demand underscores the necessity for robust and scalable telecoms infrastructure, precisely the kind that IHS Towers specialises in providing.

Moreover, the extended partnership reflects a broader trend in the telecommunications sector, where alliances are becoming crucial to staying competitive in the rapidly advancing technological landscape.

With the looming rollout of 5G technology, the collaboration’s emphasis on 5G modifications and build-to-suit sites positions both companies at the forefront of the next wave of connectivity.

In the spirit of sustainability, the two companies are not only focusing on reducing carbon intensity but also on leveraging renewable energy sources to power their shared sites.

This commitment to green initiatives aligns with the global shift towards environmentally conscious practices in business. IHS Towers and Airtel Nigeria are not merely adapting to change but actively shaping a more sustainable and eco-friendly future for the telecoms industry in Africa.
