Is it just me, or does the new WhatsApp upgrade annoy you, too? The WhatsApp Update Tab now displays both your status updates and the updates from the channels you follow together. I enjoyed scrolling vertically through the different status updates and selecting the ones I wanted to view. However, with this new upgrade, I find it uncomfortable to scroll horizontally to check for status updates.
Guess what? I discovered a way to change the visual layout of viewing WhatsApp Status updates! Just unfollow all Channels. Unfollow all channels to remove their updates from your ‘Updates’ tab.
This method is a practical way to achieve a user experience closer to the previous “Status-centered” layout. This further addresses some limitations of WhatsApp Channels.
Why Unfollow Channels?
Beyond the interface change, you might want to unfollow Channels because they have limitations:
- Limited Personalisation: Channel broadcasts lack targeting, so you receive the same message as everyone else.
- No Interaction: Channels are for one-way communication; you can’t reply or interact with the sender.
- Visibility Issues: Channel updates can be easily missed if you don’t have notifications enabled or if they get pushed down in the list.
- Potential for Information Overload: Channels can add to the clutter of WhatsApp, making it harder to find what you need.
It’s been noted that user interaction with channel updates is relatively low. While this observation may not be statistically significant, user behavior indicates limited engagement with these updates. If you enjoy shaking things up, then welcome to the old style of scrolling vertically to view WhatsApp updates.
Follow these steps:
- Open the “Updates” Tab: Navigate to the “Updates” tab in WhatsApp.
- Unfollow Channels:
- For each channel you are following, tap on the channel.
- Tap the channel name at the top of the screen.
- Tap “Unfollow.”
- Repeat this process for all channels you are following.
- Minimise Channel Discovery: Avoid exploring or following new channels to maintain the desired layout.
It’s important to note that while this method minimises the “Channels” section, it does not completely remove it. The “Channels” header and the “Find Channels” option will still be visible. If you accidentally follow a channel, you will need to unfollow it again.
Conclusion
Just as we seek to streamline our WhatsApp Status experience, managing our messages efficiently is also crucial. With billions of people using WhatsApp, we often rely on it to store and retrieve important information. But, as many of us have experienced, searching for specific messages can lead to endless scrolling, especially in group conversations.
To avoid this time-consuming task, remember that WhatsApp offers a feature to save messages for easy retrieval. Consider using the ‘Starred Messages’ feature to bookmark important conversations or addresses, ensuring you can quickly access crucial information without wasting time scrolling.”
