Every month, two billion people use WhatsApp for various purposes, primarily for communication. Many of us rely on WhatsApp to store information that we can reference later. For instance, if I need to recall a conversation we had, I can simply search for a specific word or keyword from our chat.
However, what if you searched for the word “address” and found it mentioned in several chats, including group conversations? You might end up scrolling for over a minute without locating the exact conversation you want to revisit.
By the end of this guide, you will learn about a feature in the WhatsApp application that allows you to save messages or posts for easy retrieval later. This feature has been available to you all along, but you may not have been using it effectively.
How to Save and Retrieve Messages in Your Chat with Contacts

- Open any WhatsApp chat or conversation with a contact.
- Long press on any message you wish to save. You can select multiple messages if you’d like.
- Look for the star icon at the top of the screen and tap it to save the selected message(s).
To retrieve or revisit saved messages:
- Open WhatsApp.
- Tap the three vertical dots in the top right corner.
- Select “Starred Messages” from the menu.
To save messages in group chats, follow the same steps as above.
Please note that the messages are saved according to the dates they were sent. If you want to delete any starred messages, go to “Starred Messages,” select the message you wish to delete, and tap the delete icon at the top. You can delete as many starred messages as you want.
