Instagram may be rolling back its poorly received TikTok-style redesign and reducing the app’s continual barrage of recommendations, but that won’t stop recommended content from showing in your feed entirely.
Alas! It turns out that there is a solution that you and I aren’t aware of. Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri, unconsciously, mentioned that you can turn off the app’s recommendation, in one of his Stories earlier this week.
For 30 days, you can snooze recommendations and suggested posts from your main Instagram feed. And it only takes a few steps.
Step 1: Scroll through your main Instagram feed until you find a recommended post. On the side, Instagram explains why you are seeing the recommended (or suggested) post. It could be because you follow a particular account, saved ot liked a post from someone you follow, and so on.
Step 2: Click the “three dots” at the top right corner. You will then be given two options: “Why you’re seeing this post” and “Not interested”. When you tap the latter you’ll be given three options to hide the suggested post.
But it’s not enough to remove just one recommended post. Instagram has added a fourth option: snooze all suggested posts in feed for 30 days. With this option you can get rid of all the algorithm’s suggested posts possible.
Step 3: After you choose this option a green checkmark will appear, with confirmation that your feed won’t contain suggested posts for the next 30 days.
That’s it!
Removing suggested posts from your feed doesn’t mean you won’t see many of the ads displayed on your feed by Instagram. But the step helps you to be some control of the how the algorithm behaves.
In case you decide to try this and discover you don’t see the fourth option, the problem might be your phone has an old operating system or it is just that the update hasn’t reached the region where you’re located.
