    Google marks the 2014 Commonwealth Games with a doodle

    In celebrating the commencement of the Commonwealth Games, Google has put up a doodle. The Google Doodle shows 2 wrestlers, 2 cyclists, a hammer thrower, a badminton player and a bowler in action. When you click on the doodle, you will be taken to a search page for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

    The Commonwealth Games is the third largest multi-sport event after the Olympics and the Asian Games. It will be hosting 4,560 competing athletes across 17 different sports.

    Nigeria’s contingent consists of 127 athletes  who will be competing in different sports including athletics, boxing, table tennis, weightlifting, shooting, Wrestling, power-lifting and paralympics. Nigeria’s best performance at the Commonwealth Games till date was in Victoria, Canada 1994, as the country’s contingent finished fourth on the final medals’ table with 11 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze medals.

    This year’s edition is taking place in Scotland from the 23rd of July to the 3rd of August 2014
