Flutterwave, the most valuable startup in Africa, has appointed Olajumoke Adenowo, a Nigerian architect, to its global board of directors. This move forms part of Flutterwave’s strategy for international expansion.

Adenowo is the first independent non-executive board member at Flutterwave and is anticipated to aid the company in bolstering its position both in Africa and globally, according to a company statement made on Monday. With an illustrious architectural career that spans over 35 years, Adenowo has been hailed as “Africa’s Starchitect” by CNN.

Flutterwave’s CEO and founder, Olugbenga GB Agboola, opined that Adenowo’s strategic perspective and insights would be greatly beneficial to the company as it strives to initiate inventive solutions and effect significant changes across Africa and internationally.

Adenowo, who manages a vast portfolio of both local and international projects at AD Consulting, her architectural firm, aims to utilize her “global exposure” and “personal paradigm” to enhance Flutterwave’s endeavor of linking Africa with global markets. Her recent book, “Neo Heritage: Defining Contemporary African Architecture,” led to her being the first African as well as the first black architect published by Rizzoli. Furthermore, she was honored as the Forbes Woman African Entrepreneur of the Year in 2020.

Believed to be eyeing an IPO on the NASDAQ, Flutterwave remains committed to international expansion. Recently, the fintech leader extended its presence into India, signing a deal to provide its remittance product to Asia’s second-largest economy. Founded in 2016, Flutterwave has grown rapidly, making its presence felt in about 30 African countries.

In December 2023, Flutterwave announced the appointment of five new executives to oversee its risk, compliance, and expansion departments following the abrupt departure of its former CFO, Oneal Bhambani, a month earlier. Recently, the company obtained a court order to reclaim $24 million lost to unauthorized POS transactions.

Four months after losing $24 million to illegal transfers, Flutterwave is set to recover the funds
