Ex-Paystack managers launch GoLemon, a new grocery delivery startup in Nigeria

Four seasoned ex-managers from Nigerian fintech company, Paystack, are stepping down to establish a new tech-backed grocery delivery start-up, GoLemon. The entrepreneurial quartet, namely Yinka Adewuyi, Gbadegbo Gbade-Oyelakin, Abdulrahman Jogbojogbo, and Abiola Showemimo were early employees at Paystack, providing a minimum of six years of service.

Their new venture, GoLemon, will compete in the home and business grocery and household items delivery market, a sector recently vacated by international frontrunners Jumia and Bolt due to challenging economic conditions and saturated competition.

In their new roles, Adewui will serve as GoLemon’s CEO while Gbade-Oyelakin will become the chief technology officer. Jogbojogbo will oversee the expansion of the startup while Showemimo will manage operations. GoLemon will be in direct competition with companies such as Glovo, Chowdeck, Mano, and Pricepally, yet despite this, Jogbojogbo maintains optimism about the timing of launching their grocery delivery venture.

Drawing on their individual experiences, Jogbojogbo believes that despite the uphill battle, they will be able to build a robust business. Showemimo’s background as a Lagos supermarket owner, coupled with Gbade-Oyelakin’s prior role as the head of engineering at online supermarket Supermart, will be instrumental in the development of the enterprise.

GoLemon’s business model involves managing its inventory and fulfillment centers, procuring bulk products directly from farmers and fast-moving consumer goods manufacturers. The aim is to attract a wide customer base by offering the lowest possible prices.

GoLemon is also intentionally structured to focus on clients that make repeat large-scale orders. This development closely follows the launch of foodtech start-up Mira by a former Flutterwave vice-president, as part of a broader trend of increasing interest in foodtech startups.
