Starting today, Twitter will allow users who have 600 followers (or more) to host Spaces. This will definitely include Twitter accounts on both iOS and Android devices. The launch is a bit late though, as the company had announced on March 2nd that, starting April, anyone can host a Twitter Space.
Spaces is a feature that allows its users to join virtual rooms where they can engage in real-time, audio conversations with others. The company started testing this Clubhouse-like social audio feature in November 2020, but with a restricted number of users. But on Monday, it will begin rolling the feature out globally to iOS and Android Twitter users who have 600 or more followers.
Twitter joined first-timers Clubhouse, to become one of the early entrants in a fast-growing market for live, audio-only conversations. Last month, Facebook also announced that it was adding a similar feature to its app. The company is certain that ‘Spaces’ will help the company attain its ambitious goal of growing its daily active user base to 315 million. The company has said this milestone will be attained as well as doubling revenues, by the end of 2023.
Twitter also announced that it will be launching a unique feature called “Ticket Spaces.” This extra feature will make Spaces add more value to Clubhouse.
Through ‘Ticket Spaces’, the company will give access to users to monetise Spaces using tickets. The host will be able to set ticket prices and the number of tickets sold, which could let people create exclusive events and earn some money for their efforts. Twitter says it will charge little amount as revenue from the sale of these tickets. Only a limited group will be allowed to use this feature, and this will be available in the coming months.
