Two innovative startups from Egypt and one from Tunisia have been chosen to participate in the Mega Green Accelerator, a climate-centric accelerator program based in Saudi Arabia. This initiative is part of a broader effort involving eight ventures from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, all selected for their potential to contribute to climate change solutions.

The Mega Green Accelerator, which is a collaborative effort by PepsiCo, SABIC, AstroLabs, and other partners, is designed to support entrepreneurs who are working on sustainable projects that can mitigate the effects of climate change. The program is focused on fostering a new wave of innovators who are tackling sustainability issues that affect both the MENA region and the world at large.

During the six-month program, the chosen startups will benefit from financial support, guidance from industry professionals, and opportunities to access markets that can help them expand their climate-friendly innovations. At the conclusion of the program, scheduled for later this year, one standout company will receive an additional $30,000 in funding to further its growth.

The two Egyptian startups are Viridia Tech, which provides a large-scale crop analytics platform for commercial agriculture enterprises, and P-VITA, a biotech hub that utilizes AI and IoT technologies to produce natural ingredients for the cosmetic and food and beverage sectors. The Tunisian startup, Kumulus, is a water-tech company that innovates by converting air into potable water using advanced Atmospheric Water Generator (AWG) machines.

These North African startups will be joining their peers from the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon, having been selected from a pool of 363 submissions from eco-conscious startups throughout the MENA region.

The other five startups selected for the program include Mrüna and The Surpluss from the UAE, Mirai Solar and Ahya Technologies from Saudi Arabia, and YY ReGen from Lebanon.

Eugene Willemsen, the CEO for Africa, Middle East, and South Asia at PepsiCo, highlighted the significance of the accelerator. He emphasized that startups are often at the forefront of innovation, with the power to revolutionize and shape the future. The Mega Green Accelerator is a platform that encourages such innovation through collaborative efforts across various sectors. It aims to empower the region’s emerging entrepreneurs by offering them the mentorship, funding, and market access they need to succeed.
