COVID-19: Social Media gets creative about Social Distancing

I am sure most people did not know about the term “social distancing” before the advent of coronavirus.

The coronavirus pandemic has introduced new ways of doing things and the way we communicate and relate with one another.

Social distancing is a term applied to certain actions that are taken by Public Health officials to stop or slow down the spread of a highly contagious disease. The objective of social distancing is to reduce the probability of contact between persons carrying an infection, and others who are not infected, so as to minimize disease transmission, morbidity and ultimately, mortality.

Now some people have come up with creative ways of communicating the message of social distancing on social media.

Here is one message as depicted by an artist couple, Juan Delcan and Valentina Izaguirre, who created a striking digital artwork, titled Safety Match, that illustrates the importance of staying at home to help stop the spread of disease.

This next message is from legendary comedian Mel Brooks and his son, Max Brooks.

At 93, Mel Brooks is in the group deemed high risk as the spread of COVID-19. His son, Max Brooks, said he is practicing social distancing so that his father — nor any of his father’s famous friends and fellow legendary figures — get sick. Watch the video below.

72 year old Arnold Schwarzenegger has also added his own message in this last tweet. He also tells people to stay home – “Stay at home as much as possible. Listen to the experts, ignore the morons (foreheads). We will get through this together.”
