Bloom Diagnostics, a Swiss medtech startup, has launched the Bloom Thyroid Test to assist detect hypothyroidism. Bloom has created a clever self-testing device that may be used to diagnose a variety of medical issues. Adults can use the single-use kit to test for thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) as a way of detecting thyroid dysfunction.
The Bloom Thyroid test has been approved by the Notified Body, allowing laypeople to perform the test at home. The product had previously been authorized for professional use. The Bloom Thyroid Test is intended to screen for hypothyroidism in people aged 18 and over. The user must take a pin-prick blood sample, which is collected on the Bloom Test strip and then deployed into the Bloom Lab equipment. Cloud-based algorithms then combine test findings with other measurable health status indicators, as well as medical history, lifestyle, and individual symptoms, to provide quick, fully encrypted feedback via a customized report on the Bloom App. The full smart testing procedure takes approximately 10 minutes.
The Bloom Thyroid Test asks the user if they are taking any drugs, such as Lithium or Amiodarone, which are known to have an effect on thyroid function. The clever test also takes into account whether women are pregnant, have given birth in the last 12 months, or intend to conceive in the near future. This is because thyroid hormone production rises during pregnancy, making TSH tests inaccurate.
Thyroid-stimulating hormone, or TSH, is the primary regulator of thyroid function and increases thyroid hormone output. TSH levels can be influenced by a variety of circumstances, and they are known to fluctuate throughout the day due to their intrinsic circadian rhythm. TSH levels may be influenced by factors such as exposure to stress, severe temperatures, exercise, and fasting. In the event of hypothyroidism, when the thyroid is underactive and produces insufficient hormones, TSH levels rise in order to stimulate the thyroid to create more.
When the Bloom System analyzes the data, it generates a report that includes specific recommendations for each user depending on their unique situation, such as tips for expecting mothers, information on the most common hypothyroidism symptoms, and potential danger factors.
