Microsoft founder, Bill Gates has opened a personal account on Chinese-founded messaging service, WeChat.

Gates joined WeChat on Saturday, and made his first post: a brief 30 second video in which he welcomed Chinese netizens to his account.

    His WeChat ID is @gatesnotes.

The video starts with Gates greeting in Chinese and explaining that this is his personal blog where he shares about the people he meets, the books he is reading and what he is learning.

The post has received over 80,000 views and 6000 likes so far.

Owned and launched by Tencent in 2011, WeChat is China’s top social app, with some 846 million users signed up with majority of these users use the app daily.

Gates also has an account on Weibo, opened in 2010, which now boasts over 3 million followers.
