Good news! Twitter says you can now record your Space conversations on both iOS and Android devices.
The new feature adds more value to your Spaces content, which can now be re-shared to get more attention. It will also make it easier to think about re-purposing your content in a bigger way.
First, you need to switch the “Record Space” toggle on when you’re setting up your Space. Then, you can record your Spaces chat. When a chat is being recorded, there will be a red “Rec” sign in the top left corner of the main Space screen. The host can stop recording at any time during the chat.
It will be public for 30 days after your recorded Space is done. Hosts will also be able to download the audio of their Space, which they can use to make a podcast or smaller audio clips to help promote upcoming shows and content.
This is the latest change for audio social platforms, which first gained popularity because they were short-lived. Clubhouse rose as a replacement for spontaneous, in-person get-togethers that have been out of the question because of the pandemic. There are a lot of benefits to recording those chats, but they also make them a lot more interesting and useful. The hosts of the chats, on the other hand, need to be careful when recording their sessions so that they don’t offend their speakers.
Although interest in the feature has fluctuated in recent months, Twitter continues to emphasize Spaces as a major growth factor as it seeks new methods to expand its audience and increase user engagement in the app.
In recent months, the platform has upped its development and introduced a number of new features, though it’s fair to say that many of these have fallen short of expectations and haven’t been well received by users in any significant way.
Twitter’s new CEO, Parag Agrawal, took over from Jack Dorsey in November. It will be interesting to see if the company’s strategy changes under Agrawal, and if Spaces discovery can be improved and maximised in order to make the audio platform a more important option for people.
It’s still possible for audio social and real-time interaction to be a big part of the app, but there are challenges to overcome. If Twitter can’t figure out a better way to moderate and highlight the best Spaces to get the most attention, it could end up like live-streaming, which still has a place and a purpose in the bigger picture, but is often overlooked.
