WFT’s customer is a global healthcare company with offices in over 60 countries with major research centers in US and Europe. The customer has engaged WFT for providing gap analysis of their existing disaster recovery environment for an internal Human Resource Service Case Management System, in addition, providing architecture and design for a disaster recovery solution and a detailed documented procedure for their annual DR test. The objective was to provide disaster recovery capability for this HR case management system to meet their Recovery Time Objective (RTO) and Recovery Point Objective (RPO) requirements.
The customer’s environment consisted of a combination of virtual and physical servers. The integration between Human Resource Service Case Management System, SAP systems and other survey and reporting systems was a critical factor in the overall design of the disaster recovery solution.
The scope of the engagement for WFT has involved the following:
- Provide advisory role for information gathering, understanding business requirements and providing solutions to meet the customer’s business need
- Architect and design a disaster recovery solution for the production environment
- Develop and implement the disaster recovery plan
- Execute technical disaster recovery tests and provide support for application testing
The solution involved replication of data using a database based replication solution with a principal server in primary location and a warm standby server at the disaster recovery location. A manual failover/failback process was implemented and tested based on the requirements. WFT also provided the updates to existing monitoring and change management procedures to address the requirements of the disaster recovery solution.
The implementation of this solution provided the capability of swift resolution of employee’s HR related cases even in case of a disaster, besides addressing the contractual and regulatory obligations of the firm to its employees.
