Zowasel, a Nigerian agri tech startup has received $100,000 financing from Promasidor Nigeria a leading pan African consumer packaged food manufacturer, and Guinness Nigeria at the UN World Food Programme Zero Hunger Sprint.
Zowasel is an agricultural technology startup that develops a naturally positive and sustainable value chain across communities, people, and the planet.
It works with more than 1.5 million small-scale farmers aggregated across its network in Northern Nigeria, and recently started to operate across Nigeria’s Niger Delta region to assist smallholder farmers across the cocoa and oil palm value chains. It works with multinational and national crop processors to provide a platform for both global exports of commodities and local crop sourcing.
The United Nations World Food programme has developed the “Zero Hunger Sprint” as a platform that allows innovators to put their ideas into action ensuring hunger is ended by 2030. The aim is to empower agricultural startups innovations with resources that can hasten their ideas.
At the 2021 Zero Hunger Sprint inaugural event, held in Lagos on July 30, Zowasel received two investments worth US$100,000 from an available $250,000 investment commitment from five corporate organizations. Guinness and Promasidor provided the funding to ensure Zowasel takes art from a six-month support program. It also provides opportunities for customer acquisition and collaborations with Guinness and Promasidor to join its list of marketplace off-takers and users of its sustainability and traceability software across the supply chain.
Jerry Oche, co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of Zowasel said that “We are glad two giants in Guinness Nigeria and Promasidor find us worthy of investment, we are even more excited about the opportunity, trust, and confidence bestowed upon our company. We look forward to working and collaborating with these amazing companies to understand their sustainability goals, supply chain, and traceability needs,”
