In a recent blog post, Zoom announced that it is partnering with OpenAI to bring AI-generated summaries, message drafts, and more to its video conferencing app through its Zoom IQ AI-powered assistant.

The integration of Zoom IQ, an AI-powered assistant, will enhance the user experience by allowing users to catch up on meetings they may be late to. The assistant can summarise missed meetings and answer questions using AI-generated responses.

Other features include generating whiteboards based on text prompts, providing recaps of meetings, and summarising threads in Zoom Team Chat.

Similar to the ChatGPT bot coming to Slack, Zoom IQ also allows you to generate responses to your colleagues using AI.

The company plans to introduce AI-powered message and email drafts on an invitation-only basis in April but will introduce “select” Zoom IQ meeting summary features to a broader audience.

Zoom’s move to expand its AI capabilities is likely a response to new features added by its main competitors, Google and Microsoft.

Google is bringing the ability to generate text, images, and summaries in Docs, Gmail, Sheets, and Slides, while Microsoft 365 has started testing an AI assistant called Copilot for Office documents, which uses the business or organisation’s existing data to train itself and figure out what is important.

Zoom is expanding its capabilities beyond competing with Google and Microsoft in the artificial intelligence space. Now, it’s positioning itself as an all-in-one productivity app. Zoom’s new Mail and Calendar apps allow you to access your emails and schedule directly from Zoom.

The Mail app lets you connect your Gmail or Microsoft 365 address, while the Calendar integration allows you to view third-party calendars straight from the platform. You can email a meeting host or view important details about upcoming meetings using the sidebar.

Zoom has also added a new feature called Huddles, which is a video-enabled virtual coworking space that allows you to hop into quick video calls to ask questions or chat with a colleague. This feature is available globally for users to request early access.
