Zoom rolls out a video background feature, which it calls Immersive View.
This feature, which was announced six months ago at the Zootopia Conference, could make the platform feel a bit more like an office meeting. It is now available to users of Free and Pro accounts who attend meetings and webinars with up to 25 participants.
With the “Immersive View” feature the host can arrange meeting participants and webinar panelists into a single virtual background, bringing people together into one scene to connect and collaborate in a cohesive virtual meeting space. This builds on the virtual background features which the platform already has.
You can enable this new feature from the same menu where you can find Speaker View and Gallery View. Then Zoom automatically places the participants in a variety of built-in virtual scenes like a board room or auditorium.
With the Immersive View feature, you can create a classroom ambient, boardroom, conference auditorium, or your favorite place to catch up with friends. This can take up to 25 participants.
You can select Zoom’s Immersive View in the same way they would select the Speaker or Gallery View during meetings and webinars.
Furthermore, when the host wants to share his or her screen, the Immersive View feature will end and be replaced by the shared screen. When sharing stops, the Immersive View will begin again with the same positions as before.
This feature is available on the web and macOS apps with Zoom’s version 5.6.3 or higher and is enabled by default for all Free and single Pro accounts.
