YouTube Create, a standalone mobile app by Google that caters to creators by assisting them in the production of both Shorts and longer videos, is set to extend its reach to a wider array of markets. Initially, the app was launched for beta testing and was available on Android in the US and a select few other markets. However, it will now become available in over a dozen more countries, including Brazil, Spain, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, and others, making it available in a total of 21 countries.
The concept of Create is to provide video creators with a suite of free, easy-to-use tools that can facilitate video creation on the go. Announced at YouTube’s Create event in September last year, the app is designed to tackle specific challenges faced by creators, such as video editing and the use of creative tools like stickers, GIFs, and effects. In addition, with its built-in creative tools and AR and AI filters, the app aims to compete with TikTok, which is a preferred choice for non-technical creators wanting to experiment with videos but lacking the necessary editing skills.
Create provides users with several functionalities. Users can upload clips, split and trim videos, apply special effects, and gain access to royalty-free music that they can use to enhance their videos. These copyright-safe songs also have the capability to synchronize the beats of the song with the video clips, akin to TikTok’s functionality.
Available in the suite of tools is Audio Cleanup, which uses a denoising model to mitigate background and ambient noise, thereby improving the audio quality of the users’ video clips recorded on their smartphones.
The app also includes a built-in voiceover tool. In addition to offering automatic and editable captions, it gives users diverse options to stylize the text according to their preference.
After users have concluded their edits, they can directly publish their creations on YouTube with a simple tap.
YouTube is aiming to gain a larger share of the market that prefers to use standalone tools for video editing by offering a specialized suite of tools for its creators. For example, despite TikTok offering a vast array of built-in effects, many creators choose to use CapCut, another creative app by ByteDance, for preparing their TikTok videos. In a similar vein, Create provides an equivalent workflow for those who have a preference for publishing on YouTube.
As of today, the Create app is expanding its availability to new markets. These include Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, and Turkey. The app was initially launched in the U.S., Germany, France, the U.K., India, Indonesia, South Korea, and Singapore.
