YouTube has announced a new Voluntary Exit Program (VEP) for its US-based employees, offering severance packages to those who choose to leave the company. The move follows an internal memo from CEO Neal Mohan outlining a major organizational restructuring designed to streamline operations and prepare for the platform’s next growth phase. The YouTube Voluntary Exit Program aims to give employees flexibility amid structural changes rather than resorting to traditional layoffs.
According to Mohan’s memo, YouTube will now operate through three key divisions. These divisions include Viewer Products, Creator and Community Products, and Subscription Products, each of them reporting directly to the CEO. The Viewer Products team will oversee the user experience across YouTube’s main app, YouTube Kids, Learning, and Trust & Safety. The Creator and Community Products division will focus on developing tools and systems that help creators grow their audiences and foster engagement. Meanwhile, the Subscription Products division will manage YouTube Premium, YouTube Music, and over-the-top (OTT) subscription services.
The business stressed that no positions are being terminated as part of these adjustments, even with the launch of the YouTube Voluntary Exit Program. Rather, the program aims to streamline internal reporting lines and put YouTube in a better position to react to changes in the market and new technologies, especially artificial intelligence (AI), which is rapidly influencing YouTube’s future.
