YouTube is currently testing an update to its YouTube Studio app that will let users upload and manage podcasts. This is part of its continued expansion into the podcasting space, which the video service introduced last year.
We’re running an experiment that lets you create a podcast or set an existing playlist as a podcast within Studio to make it simpler for creators to distribute their podcasts on YouTube,” YouTube said in an updated page.
Podcasts can be uploaded through the ‘Create’ tab in YouTube Studio. In addition, you can view all of your podcasts under a new Podcasts tab located in the ‘Content’ menu.
YouTube is also experimenting with podcast analytics, which will reveal information about your podcast’s performance that is not applicable to your videos, making it easier to track podcast content separately from video uploads.
The service has been adapting to meet the needs of its expanding audio audience by adding podcasting features. While videos will always be a big part of YouTube, it’s clear that people are also interested in listening to music on the platform thanks to the over 77 million paying subscribers YouTube Music has.
During the time it launched, some app users said they were able to access a new podcast page. It makes sense for YouTube to diversify its media offerings to accommodate its creative talent, which now includes both short- and long-form video, as many of its most successful users also host their own podcasts. Although progress on podcasts is still slow, this latest addition represents a positive step in the right direction.
