A Brand Account lets YouTube creators support their business or brand identity without having to show a connection with their personal Google Accounts.
If you create content on YouTube, Google has now made it possible to change your channel name and profile picture to better reflect your content. You can do this without updating the name and photo associated with your Google account.
Hiterto, content creators had to change their name and icon for their entire Google account — so their name on YouTube would be the same name they send emails from in Gmail. That wasn’t logical from a branding or professional position. However, this new option would make it flexible for creators who might prefer to send emails in their actual name instead of their channel name.
A CAVEAT
The new policy states that creators who already have a verification badge will lose their check mark if they change their channel names. According to YouTube, they will have to apply to receive the badge again.
Personal and Brand accounts will both have the option to use this new feature. YouTube says the feature is a “top request from creators” and that it will be roll out starting April 22nd, 2021.
