It is the first time this kind of service is being provided to China Mobile customers in Hong Kong. Analysts are saying this might cause other operators to join in.
Here in Nigeria, some operators offer the ability for customers to roll over unused data. Please check with your operator to find out how that works and if they offer it.
China Mobile has been sued in the past for not allowing a user to roll over unused data traffic.
While MTN Nigeria, Etisalat Nigeria and Glo Nigeria offer sharing of Internet data plan among multiple SIMs, none is yet to offer this kind of service–where a customer can sell unused Internet data to other subscribers.
With MTN, the Data Sharing feature is only limited to their staff and customers who subscribe under MTN Business. Etisalat Nigeria will allow one single SIM to be the parent SIM, with the ability to make and receive calls; while the other SIMs are better as data only SIM. With Glo, you can share Internet plan with your spouse, children and any person you wish.
China Mobile Hong Kong chairman Tiger Lin Zhenhui said its 2cm data exchange platform would give 4G Pro service plan customers the chance to trade capacity.
“Many users who subscribe to a 5-gigabyte monthly plan may not use all the data,” he said. The average mobile Internet user can hardly consumer more than 5 GB, except if the mobile data plan is being tethered or used to consumer heavy mobile media.
