Telegram announced that you can now move your chat history from other apps like WhatsApp, Line and KakaoTalk. This is a significant breakthrough for Telegram as people still pondering on the need to move from WhatsApp to its platform, can do this without losing their chat history.
Telegram has grown by over 100 million new users this January as people started moving away from WhatsApp due to its proposed privacy policy change.
Everyone can now bring thier chat history – including videos and documents to Telegram and it works for individuals chats and group chats.
To move a chat from WhatsApp on iOS, open the Contact Info or Group Info page in WhatsApp, tap Export Chat, then choose Telegram in the Share menu.
On Android, open a WhatsApp chat, tap ⋮ > More > Export Chat, then choose Telegram in the Share menu.
Messages will be imported into the current day but will also include their original timestamps. All members of the chat on Telegram will see the messages. If you import a group chat history from WhatsApp with one person not on Telegram, that person will appear as a placeholder. When that person joins, he or she will take their rightful place.
Note that to transfer your WhatsApp chat history to Telegram, you will need the latest versions of both apps.
