Facebook has introduced a new feature that allows users to create multiple personal profiles, aiming to offer a greater sense of freedom and control on the platform. This move addresses the concerns of users who prefer to separate their personal and professional lives, enabling them to share content with specific groups or interests more comfortably.
For instance, you might want one profile dedicated to close friends and another for acquaintances or former colleagues. This way, you can tailor your content sharing to different circles. Perhaps you’re an avid bookworm and wish to have a profile solely for book-related posts and connections who share your literary passion.
Explaining this new feature, Facebook stated, “We heard from people that clearer organization of friends, groups, and interests helps them feel freer to engage with the audience they believe is most relevant…Creating multiple personal profiles lets you easily organize who you share with and what content you see for the various parts of your life.”
Each profile will have its distinct feed with relevant content, and users can switch between profiles without the need to log in repeatedly. Initially, certain features like dating, marketplace, professional mode, and payments will not be available for additional personal profiles.
Facebook has been testing this feature for about a year, and according to a spokesperson, it’s now rolling out globally in response to a positive reception. As of July, Facebook had over 3 billion monthly active users, making it one of the largest social media platforms globally.
