Facebook is teaming up with Uber to expand their services with the launch of transportation on Messenger. With this new feature in its messaging app, users can request a ride from Uber without ever needing to download an extra app or leave a conversation.
The first time you book a ride within the app, Facebook and Uber will pick up the tab for a limited time. The app works provided you are located in a city where the ridesharing app currently operates.
According to Facebook’s Product Manager, Seth Rosenberg; “It’s super easy and doesn’t take you away from the plans that you’re making with your friends or family.”
In order to request a ride, all the user has to do is just tap the more menu from within a conversation, choose Transportation, tap the car icon to request a ride. From there, you’ll receive updates on your driver’s status and notify your friends that you’ve called a ride. With the ability to request, track and pay for a ride in Messenger, Facebook’s making transportation as simple as sending a message.
The feature will be available in the latest update.
