You can now earn money allowing Ad breaks on your Facebook pages in Africa

Facebook Ad breaks are now available in Africa – Nigeria, South Africa, Kenya and Ghana. Ad breaks help video creators and publishers earn money by including short ads in their video content.

Ad breaks are only available to Pages that publish videos in certain languages and countries. English is one of the languages and Nigeria, Kenya, South Africa and Ghana are the eligible African countries.

However there are certain rules that would determine your eligibility. They are as follows:

    • You must pass and remain compliant with Facebook’s Partner Monetization Policies.
    • You have to publish from a Page (not a profile) with at least 10,000 followers.
    • You must generate at least 30,000 1-minute views on videos that are at least 3 minutes long in the last 60 days.
    • You must be at least 18 years old.
    • You must live in an ad breaks eligible country.

You’ll need to continue to meet the criteria after you have been approved to use ad breaks. Periods of inactivity from 60 days or more can affect your ability to continue monetizing with ad breaks and your Page may lose access to ad breaks at our discretion. If that happens, you need to meet the initial ad breaks criteria to regain access and start monetizing videos again.

    Creation of Ad Breaks

You can manage ad breaks in Creator Studio. You can use ad breaks in specific videos, or you can enable them for all videos on your Page.

In Creator Studio, upload a new video by selecting Video from the Home tab.

After you have uploaded your new video, you can insert ad breaks by selecting Ad Breaks in the video composer.

When inserting ad breaks, you have two options:

    1. Automatic placements:
      • Our automatic placement feature is on by default, meaning ad breaks will be added to your videos automatically. The automatic placements feature can find the best natural cue point for an ad break in your content while trying to maximize your earnings.
      • Our automatic placement feature works best if your video is structured to accommodate an ad break.
    2. Choose placements:
      • You can add cue points in your videos to signify where you’d like ad breaks to be placed.
      • You can start placing cues after the 60 second mark of your video.
      • You must leave at least 120 seconds between each cue point.
      • We may not be able to fill every cue point you suggest.
      • Viewers will see ads at different points in your video depending on the last time they saw one.

Once you are finished placing your ad breaks, select Publish.

When you upload your video, you can select the video’s language. Select the Select Language dropdown and choose one language.

Your estimated earnings are based on several factors, including the number of impressions and CPM. Your payouts will be different from what’s displayed in Estimated Earnings if your video contains content owned by someone else or there are other adjustments.

If you include content you don’t have the rights to use in your video, the person or business who owns the content may claim ownership and may receive a portion of the video’s ad break earnings. Your payout may be withheld for up to 30 days to further review an ownership claim. You will be notified if the ownership claim is confirmed.

The roll out of Facebook Ad breaks began in 2018
