Instagram has now introduced two new features – Favorites and Following – which allow you control what you see on your Instagram feed. A couple of days ago, the Meta-owned photo-sharing platform introduced parental controls for its Instagram app to allow parents to supervise their children’s activities on the site.
According to Adam Mosseri, Head of Instagram in a recent blog post, Favorites shows you the latest from accounts that you choose, like your best friends and favorite creators. In addition to this view, posts from accounts in Favorites will also show up higher in your home feed. Following shows you posts from the people you follow. Both Favorites and Following will show you posts in chronological order, so you can quickly catch up on recent posts.
Currently, Instagram displays content determined by the social media’s algorithm based on what you see most.
So this new feature set provides another way of going through your feed. However you will have to choose the option you want.
To use Favorites and Following, tap on Instagram in the top left corner of your home page to choose what you see.
Adam says you can “use Favorites to see the most recent posts from the accounts you’ve added to your favorites list.” “You can add up to 50 accounts to your list, and make changes to this list at any time — people are not notified when they are added or removed. Posts from accounts on your favorites list will also show up higher in your home feed, as shown by a star icon.”
He reassures users that the company is always working on new ways to improve the Instagram experience. “We’ll continue to build features like Favorites and Following to give you more choice and control over what you see, and help make the time you spend on the app feel more intentional.”
