In order to prevent the mass exodus of users to rival services due to Yahoo’s email breach which affected 500 million users, it has disabled automatic email forwarding.
Automatic email forwarding makes it possible for users not to miss important messages as they change one address for another. This is an important feature for almost all email providers.
For Yahoo, it means that you still have to open your yahoo inbox every time you want to check your old mail address thus making it difficult for users to entirely abandon Yahoo.
In brief statement on its website, Yahoo said: “we have disabled the feature while we work to improve it”
These are not good times for the 6 most visited site in the world as it struggles to beat off competition from Google. Early in September, it experienced a data breach and it was recently accused of developing a custom program to search all users’ incoming email for specific requests from U.S. intelligence officials.
