Xiaomi has just uploaded a video teaser about its double-folding smartphone on Twitter. The video shows the phone manufacturer’s President and Co-founder Bin Lin playing with the smartphone.

Bin Lin talked more about the phone in a post on his Weibo account. Translated into English (using Google Translate), it reads
“Xiaomi double folding mobile phone is coming! After conquering a series of technical problems such as flexible folding screen technology, four-wheel drive folding shaft technology, flexible cover technology, and MIUI adaptation, we made the first folding screen mobile phone, which should be the world’s first double folding mobile phone. . This symmetrical double-folded form perfectly combines the experience of the tablet and mobile phone, which is both practical and beautiful. Although it is still an engineering machine, it is sent out for everyone to see.
Welcome everyone to forward / comment / like. If you like it, we will consider making a mass production machine in the future.”
“In addition, we want to give this engineering machine a name, what do you think is good? I think of two: Xiaomi Dual Flex, Xiaomi MIX Flex. Welcome everyone to make suggestions!”
What do you think about the smartphone? Will Xiaomi go ahead to mass produce this gadget?
This is truly the year of foldable smartphones. California-based start-up Royole beat major players Huawei and Samsung in launching what it claims is the world’s first foldable smartphone. The FlexPai mobile phone was made available to consumers in a flash sale in December 2018. Earlier in 2018, DJ Koh, CEO of Samsung’s mobile division, mentioned that the company would unveil details of a foldable smartphone this year.
Is the foldable smartphone here to stay or is it just a fad? Time will tell.
