Though Chinese smartphone maker has always been know for pushing out mobile phones, it has now veered into the world of laptops by introducing its first ever laptop – the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air .
I wonder what Xiaomi is trying to do by pitching itself against Apple’s Macbook Air. Xiaomi has always been seen as a cheaper alternative to most of the powerful, expensive phones even with the introduction of the RedMi Pro which was launched on the same day that the Notebook Air was launched. So by comparing itself with the Apple Macbook Air, is it trying to say it is lighter and better?
The picture below shows it is indeed 13% thinner than the Macbook Air.
It also has a smaller body; actually 11% smaller.
So does this automatically mean it is better? Let’s check out the specs.
The Windows 10-run Notebook comes in two sizes – 13.3 inches (1.07kg) and 12.5 inches (1.27kg). It features a brushed aluminium body, full HD display, type-C USB charging, two USB slots and headphone jack. It boasts of a battery life of 9.5 hrs for the 13.3 inch sized and 11.5hrs for the 12.5 inch sized notebooks respectively. Xiaomi claims the battery has the ability to gain a 50% charge in just 30 minutes.
The 13.3 inch model comes with a sixth-generation Intel Core i5 CPU, 8GB of DDR4 RAM, 256GB SSD, and a Nvidia 940MX video card for games. The smaller model comes with an Intel Core M3 processor with integrated graphics, 4GB RAM and 128GB in expandable SSD.
The starting price for the notebook (12.5-inch model) is ¥3,499, while the 13.3-inch model will go for ¥4,999 ($750).
