Xiaomi Mi 11 Series Comes With Corning’s Next-Gen Gorilla Glass 7 Victus Protection

Xiaomi is all set to launch its next-generation flagship smartphone, the Xiaomi Mi 11 smartphone December 28. However, this smartphone will not be a regular flagship for the company. Xiaomi seems to be taking its premium quality to another level and this series will not be cheap. We already know that the Mi 11 series will be the first to use the Snapdragon 888 SoC. This device will also have an exclusive period for this new flagship chip. Now, Xiaomi CEO, Lei Jun, has confirmed that this device will use Corning’s new-generation Gorilla Glass, named after Victus. Many loosely call this glass “Corning Gorilla Glass 7.” This device will be the first Chinese phone to use this glass.

The Latin Victus means: face the challenge and keep going. This Gorilla Glass is not a simple “seventh generation”, but a cross-generational transcendence. It supports anti-fall and scratch-resistant – this gives it a double breakthrough. With this spec, the Xiaomi Mi 11 is set to come with the toughest Gorilla Glass yet. This glass can withstand an applied load of over 100kg while others fail at less than 20kg. Lei Jun said that the glass is 2x the scratch resistance, and 1.5x the drop resistance performance.

Lei Jun further stated that regardless of cost, Xiaomi’s high-end flagship has once again broken through. According to him, it cost the company a huge amount of money to customize the screen. He claims that this is the top screen ever made by Mi mobile phones, and it may also be the most expensive screen in the industry. For Lei Jun, this top screen should be protected by the best Gorilla Glass.

XIAOMI MI 11 SPECULATIONS

There have been numerous leaks and speculations regarding the Xiaomi Mi 11 series. For starters, this series will have at least two versions – Xiaomi Mi 11 and Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro. Both smartphones will continue to use a punch-hole design. However, while the Mi 11 uses a hyperboloid screen, the Mi 11 Pro comes with a 2K quad-curved screen. The displays support up to 120Hz refresh rate as well as the native 10bit color depth.

Judging from the leaked real images of the Mi 11, it uses a blue gradient back shell. Furthermore, the rear camera layout has a square design. This compartment holds two large sensors and a small sensor above the LED light. However, the Mi 11 Pro is expected to adopt a horizontal matrix camera design.

In addition, the Mi 11 Pro will support up to 100W super-fast charging. Recall that this is the specification of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Extreme Edition. Nevertheless, there are speculations that the Mi 11 Pro charging power may be up to 120W fast charging. The basic version of the series will receive a battery with a capacity of 4780mAh, and the larger variant with a 4970mAh battery. The standard version camera will have three lenses (108 MP + 13 MP + 5 MP), while the Mi 11 Pro will have a more interesting set of sensors: 50 MP + 48 MP + 20 MP + 12 MP.

Also, the Mi 11 appeared on Geekbench today. As expected, this smartphone comes with Qualcomm’s latest 5G flagship SoC, Snapdragon 888. It also has up to 12GB of RAM and runs Android 11. This device recorded a single core of 1135 points and a multi-core of 3790 points. This obviously meets Qualcomm’s official standard for the Snapdragon 888 SoC.
