X introduces faster Grok model and new ‘Grok button’

XAI, the artificial intelligence company founded by Elon Musk, may be facing an intensifying legal battle with OpenAI. However, this has not deterred the company from launching new products, even on a Friday night. xAI announced that it has started rolling out an upgraded version of its flagship chatbot model, Grok 2, to all users on X, the social network previously known as Twitter.

X, which is also owned by Musk, frequently serves as a testing platform for Grok. According to a blog post by xAI, the enhanced Grok is “three times faster” and boasts “improved accuracy, instruction-following, and multi-lingual capabilities.”

For free users, Grok is limited to answering ten questions every two hours. However, subscribers to X’s Premium and Premium+ plans benefit from higher usage limits. Additionally, xAI revealed the introduction of a “Grok button” on X. This feature is designed to assist users in discovering “relevant context, understanding real-time events, and delving deeper into trending discussions.”

The company also announced several updates to its enterprise API. xAI’s API now includes two new Grok models that offer better efficiency and multilingual performance. Due to these efficiency improvements, the pricing has been reduced from $5 per million input tokens (approximately 750,000 words) or $15 per million output tokens to $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens.

In the upcoming weeks, xAI plans to integrate its image generation model, Aurora, into the API. Aurora, an image AI with minimal filtering, was introduced on X this month as part of the Grok chatbot experience.
