Pan African connectivity provider WIOCC has partnered with carrier-neutral data center provider iColo to accelerate the growth of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) in Kenya. This strategic collaboration aims to enhance the digital infrastructure, improve interconnectivity, and unlock new market opportunities for ISPs, thereby contributing to the rapid expansion of Kenya’s digital economy.
WIOCC has successfully deployed the Mombasa Kenya Metro Network, which interconnects major data centers and submarine cable landing stations. This infrastructure now integrates seamlessly with iColo’s carrier-neutral data centers, creating an advanced peering ecosystem that offers ISPs low-latency, high-performance connectivity solutions. This integration is expected to significantly improve the quality of internet services available to consumers and businesses alike.
James Wekesa, Chief Commercial Officer at WIOCC Group, remarked, “The collaboration with iColo is a game-changer for Kenya’s ISP community. Through our high-capacity metro network and peering solutions, we are providing ISPs with the scalability, reliability, and efficiency needed to serve the evolving needs of Kenyan businesses and consumers.” This partnership is poised to transform the landscape for ISPs, enabling them to better meet the demands of a growing digital market.
According to WIOCC, this alliance addresses a critical challenge faced by ISPs: the need to expand network reach while maintaining cost efficiency. By leveraging WIOCC’s carrier-grade metro and national network infrastructure, ISPs can extend their services beyond Mombasa, reaching new regional and national markets. This capability is crucial for ISPs looking to grow their customer base and enhance service offerings.
iColo’s data center campuses located in Nairobi and Mombasa provide essential infrastructure that grants ISPs access to high-capacity subsea cable systems, content delivery networks, and cloud service providers. The collaboration between WIOCC and iColo is expected to meet Kenya’s increasing demand for a high-performance and scalable ecosystem, which is essential for the rollout of cloud services, content delivery, and high-speed internet.
“With increased digital adoption across Kenya, businesses need network solutions that are highly reliable and scalable,” Wekesa added. This partnership not only aims to support the growth of ISPs but also to foster a more robust digital economy in Kenya, ensuring that businesses and consumers have access to the connectivity they need to thrive in an increasingly digital world.
