The winners of the Google Hackathon held in Lagos, Oyewale Oyediran and Maxwell Udoba, will be on their way to the Google I/O event holding from the 27th – 29th of June 2012 in San Francisco, USA. They built an application called “Life Savers” which is a platform that uses the Public Data API and analyses your mood. Apart from the tickets they won, they also got brand new Android phones.
All these were part of the hackathons organised by Google to help 100 African developers build applications on the Google+ API. The hackathons started in Kampala at Soliz House, followed by Lagos at the Co-Creation Hub and lastly Accra at the Meltwater Entrepreneurial School of Technology.
This is a step in the right direction to help developers across the African continent. The African developers can now distribute hangout apps across Google+.
According to a recent post on the Google Africa blog, “Keep on building your app, and if you submit it in the next six weeks via the Google Africa website, you could be featured on the Google+ Developers + Page or Blog, and the new Google Developer showcase page. For inspiration, updates, photos and more, check out the #hackgplus stream on Google+. “
The ball is in your court. Let’s play.
